IBP is Raising Funds for a Pallet Project in Mozambique

Mozambique 1At IBP, sometimes we get such well-written and specific requests for books that we feel compelled to share them. This recent one, from David Hartness in Mozambique, is a perfect example of a place where IBP wants to send a pallet of books. His email is below:

To whom it may concern, My name is David Hartness and I am a current Peace Corps volunteer, serving in Namaacha, Mozambique. Namaacha is a small border town, bordering Swaziland and South Africa. If you look at a map, and you see the point where the three countries come together, that is Namaacha. I am currently working at a teacher training institute, and am training young Mozambican’s how to be effective English teachers. At the end of the training, they will be spread out throughout the country. Along with my day to day teaching, I have started a Theatre group, which teaches young students about aid and prevention skills to lead a healthier lifestyle. We teach this message to the secondary, primary and the community at large through theatre. My next project is what has compelled me to write this letter of inquiry. I have worked with and will continue to work with two primary schools, the secondary school and of course the Teacher training institute. All these schools, have one thing in common, they have no books and very little text books. It is very common for one book to be shared by ten or more students. I heard that your organization helps bring books into poverty stricken areas around the world, to help promote literature in the schools and help expand the minds of young people, and therefore promoting a better world. I was curious as to how I would go about bringing books into my community. Is there a grant that I could apply for? Any help that you would have, would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
David Hartness
Peace Corps Volunteer, 2008-present
