In particular, we need:

• Medical Books (all fields including but not limited to surgery, family medicine, pediatrics, emergency medicine, dentistry, orthopedics, etc)
• Children’s books (picture books and board books for children ages 0-5. We especially need books about concepts like nature, art, music, growing up, starting school, manners, etc. Also we need timeless classic picture books like Madeline, Curious George, Dr. Seuss, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and pretty much any picture book by Scholastic.)

Most of these books will probably go toward our upcoming donations to Haiti, Albania and Eastern Kentucky.

I am currently a 2^nd year Peace Corps Volunteer serving in East Java, Indonesia.  I can’t express enough thanks for your financial help in shipping books from America halfway around the world to a school you’ve never heard of and students you’ve never met.

I have a very devoted counterpart and group of English Club students who are trying to create an ‘English Corner’ full of resources not only for English lovers, but for other subjects who may not have access to decent-quality books, specifically math and science.  Naturally, my English Club girls were most excited about the novels and short stories that were included in the box, but were much appreciative of everything that was included.

Although you may feel that your act of kindness was effortless, please know that this first shipment of books has not only increased the level of interest that my students already had in English, but also demonstrated the generosity of Americans in helping promote education worldwide.  Here are a few thank you notes that my students insisted I share with you, and as in true Javanese culture, they apologize in advance for any mistakes they may have made in their not-yet-perfect English.  Again thank you and I hope your kindness will revisit you tenfold.

Thank you so much for your support! We received your shipment of books at the end of May. If the books could talk, I am sure they could spin a pretty good story of their adventure across land and sea to reach Lusaka, Zambia.

The books have been donated to Bauleni Street Kids Project located on the outskirts of central Lusaka just past the city cemetery. Bauleni Street Kids Project was chosen because of student need, commitment to establishing a library and its large population of special needs children.

The recipients read their new books at the Bauleni Street Kids Project in Zambia.

During the presentation of the books, we snacked on milk and cookies. One special needs student volunteered to read a book aloud to her classmates. After the story-telling, the children had a chance to read the books.

The school has set aside a classroom and filled the shelves with books, like sets of donated encyclopedias and books geared more for older students. With this very-welcomed donation, the school now has books every age can enjoy.

The International Book Project is pleased to announce its partnership with the Balagula Theatre Company!  On Saturday, September 3^rd at Natasha’s Bistro in downtown Lexington, the Balagula Theatre will hold a showing of “One Flea Spare” by Naomi Wallace. For every $15 general admission ticket sold, IBP will receive $5. For every $10 student ticket sold, IBP will receive $2.

Tickets will be available for sale in advance. Reservations have to be made on beetnik.com or by calling Natasha’s Bistro at 859-259-2745. While the play will run from September 1^st to 14^th, IBP will only receive a portion of the proceeds from the show on September 3^rd.

Come to watch this award winning play! Not only will you enjoy a play that showcases Lexington’s leading actors while enjoying a delicious meal at Natasha’s Bistro, but this will also be an exciting opportunity for you to support IBP!

Thank you so much for the books.  They arrived in excellent condition. It was beginning to sprinkle and nearing dusk when I walked into my sight with a heavy box of books on my head.  I heard a voice call out as I walked down the street.  It was the kindergarten teacher and her two daughters calling me in from the rain.  I obliged and spent the next hour exploring the contents of the box with them.  The girls were ecstatic and what a beautiful sight it was to see them share stories.

Many years back my late father had subscribed to the International Book Project, and our family started getting books from you through some contacts. The details are not clear to me as I was just ten years old or may be younger then. The wealth of knowledge that we were exposed to was immeasurable. Our English improved.  We learned about the world outside our little town. Our debt to you is beyond measure. Today our family’s broadminded approach to life is because of these books. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your gift of books. We have kept your books till today in our family even though the pages have yellowed. Re-reading the books gives us immense pleasure.
